MADD Beauty was built from a place of real life, real pressure, and a real desire to create a better balance between business and family life.

 

After purchasing our own home, we found ourselves reflecting on the long hours spent working tirelessly to build other people’s businesses—often at the expense of our own time, energy, and family. With a young child who seemed to catch every bug going around daycare (and with school just around the corner bringing even more), I knew something had to change.
 

I wanted the freedom to work around my children when needed, to be present, and to build something that truly belonged to us. Plus with my eldest daughter completing her studies in Beauty Therapy, I didn’t want her going off after all of her hard work and slaving away for someone else when she could be her own boss.

 

With a large property and a vision in mind, we made the decision to create our own space—right at home. 

After going back and forth with a cabin company, carefully designing a layout that would suit our services and our clients.
 

When the cabin finally arrived, we watched our dream begin to take shape—completely built in just two days.

 

From there, the real work began.

 

We poured ourselves into every detail— Prepping, painting, installing feature walls, laying flooring, adding dividing doors for privacy, building a deck and stairs, creating a separate gated entrance, and ensuring our clients would walk into a calm, welcoming space (not our everyday home life with animals running around).

 

What made this journey even more special was that it wasn’t just us bringing the studio to life—it was our whole whānau. From our little miss 5-year-old right through to our teens, brothers, partners, extended whānau, and our mum/nan, everyone played a part. It truly was a hands-on, family-built space filled with love, effort, and shared pride.

 

Every detail was thought through. Every corner built with purpose.
 

Alongside this, we applied for a business grant through Work and Income. After a long process, we were incredibly grateful to be approved—allowing us to invest in quality furnishings, equipment, and products to truly bring our studio to life.
 

When everything finally arrived, there were late nights, early mornings, and a whole lot of hustle to get everything set up just right. We carefully created a space that not only works efficiently for our services, but also ensures comfort, privacy, and a relaxing experience for every client who walks through our doors.
 

What started as working out of a spare bedroom has now grown into a beautiful, purpose-built studio we are incredibly proud of.
